Dr. Francisca Vicente, Head of Screening and target validation at MEDINA, together with Ralph Urbatzka (CIIMAR) and Sara Freitas (CIIMAR), organized the High Throughput Screening and Safety Course that took place at CIIMAR on November 5-7, as part of the Blue and Green project activities.
The programme included lectures, talks from brand representatives and demonstrations of equipment related to the subject, and it was dedicated to the use of HTS in drug discovery, collection generation and management, phenotypic and target-based assays, data analysis, relevant models for screening in vitro and in vivo safety assays, and also addressed ADME-drug-drug interactions and pharmacokinetics. The objective of this course was to give an overview of the HTS technique and its possible applications in research, focusing on natural products, new compounds and testing models, drug interactions within the organism and the necessary steps to be taken in the safety assays and further pharmacokinetics.
The project BLUEandGREEN has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 692419.
